Le Modèle conceptuel de référence du CIDOC : de la sémantique des inventaires aux musées en dialogue

Abstract : From the semantics of museum inventories to dialoguing museums: The CIDOC CRM model. Each museum is in charge of creating metadata sets describing the collections they hold. The structures of such information may contain local particularities, aiming at meeting specific needs. But the current movement that tends to lead us from a 'Web of Documents' to a 'Web of Data' on which structured data sets would be linked to each other, rather than just stored in independent repositories as they are today, calls for a formalization of the concepts that underlie the various ways museum information can be structured. This is what the CIDOC CRM ontology does. It is independent from any format and ensures the interoperability of data by digging out the abstract notions that can be rendered in many ways in the information sources produced by museums. This paper provides an overview of the CIDOC CRM and some projects that are based on it.
