Les altérations du zip : focus sur les pertes d’adhésion et reproduction de ces phénomènes en laboratoire

Abstract : The purpose of the Zip project was to develop restoration treatments for Zips, i.e. pressure-sensitive adhesive plastic film used in architectural drawings. With this in mind, one of the degradation phenomena observed in the collections, the loss of adhesion, was reproduced in the laboratory on samples employing unused sheets of Zip film collected from agencies, following lightbased artificial ageing protocols in an environmental chamber. Rigorous attention was paid to the ensuing development of loss of adhesion on the surface so as to establish ageing protocols in order to obtain alterations similar to those observed on works in museum collections. The series of samples thus obtained enabled us to subsequently test all the restoration treatments.
